Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks nerve cells & pathways in the brain & spinal cord which leads to paralysis & death. The Arizona Chapter established in 1991, provides free, local programs that enable patients & families to manage this devastating disease with dignity & hope.
There is no effective treatment for ALS and no known cause or cure.
Military veterans are approximately twice as likely to be diagnosed with ALS.
ALS can strike anyone at any time regardless of age or race or gender.
